The truth is once we know more about the character of God, we have answers to so many of our questions about what happens after death.
In the Bible we read about His love, mercy, and desire for us to know Him. And yet death, like the savage ripping away of a friend or loved one, can feel so wrong. If everyone is going to die, why does death seem so unfair? We read in the Bible that actually we were created for eternity, not for death. In the beginning, God created a paradise for the first man and woman. It was through their rebellion against God that death was introduced into the Garden of Eden.
“And the LORD God commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.’” (Genesis 2:17 NIV)
So how does that ease our fear of death? Knowing that death wasn’t a part of God’s perfect plan means that our loving God was determined to defeat death so that we could once again enjoy eternal life with Him.
In the Bible we read that the One who defeated death was Jesus Christ.
Because Jesus Christ was fully man, yet without sin, His atoning death could take the place of ours.
“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”
(2 Corinthians 5:21)
