I need to deserve (or earn) it
You cook a special meal for your boyfriend/girlfriend or give your mother a birthday gift. Their response?
I love you.
The connection seems even clearer when we look at this equation from the other side. You make a mistake or hurt their feelings and love seems the last thing on their mind, as anger or even hate surfaces.
Many of us despair of ever experiencing genuine or authentic love. Maybe you were ignored, put-down, or even abused as a child so you struggle to believe that you are worthy or deserving of love.
What if the truth is that you are loved not because of what you do but because of a love that is unchangeable?
The creator of the universe, the one who has known you since before time began, loves you.
Your actions can never diminish (or increase) God’s love for you.
Consider this.
God is love.
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8 NIV)
God’s Love is based on who He is, not on who you are.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 NIV)
