Because of their own choices
You plant corn. You expect a harvest of corn.
Even outwardly “good” people must have done something wrong to have a miscarriage, receive a bad medical diagnosis or be fired. Right?
We can’t totally remove the bad from our lives. Lying, envy, gossip, anger, holding a grudge or withholding forgiveness – and that’s just my list of what I plant every day.
You could have a totally different list, but the effect is the same.
So, are we destined to always be paying for the wrong that we have done?
In that case how can there be hope for any of us?
The truth is… if it were dependent on us, there would be no hope. God knows that, which is why He did not leave us to ourselves.
The Bible says:
‘The wages of sin are death’
Yes, if we plant rebellion or sin, we should harvest death. But it doesn’t end there, it continues:
‘But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord’
(Romans 6:23)
God offers us forgiveness and the chance to live with him forever.

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
(John 16:33 NLT)
It can be hard to recognize that the source of suffering and pain may actually be sin (rebellion) inside of us.
But God doesn’t leave us trapped in the pain of that knowledge. He has a way for you to be free of your worst thoughts, words and actions.
Instead of looking at you with judgement, what if he looks at you with love and compassion? What if he wanted to give you hope for today and paradise for eternity?
