Because God is angry

An earthquake wipes out an entire village…

Your grandmother wastes away from cancer…

These are the things that seem senseless, and because they have no rhyme or reason, they make us even more upset. It makes God seem vengeful and uncaring.

Maybe you assume that God is powerless and that he can’t do anything about what is going on.

But what if our recognition that these things are not right reveals not only that God and His standards exist but also that his character of justice and truth is what we really desire?

What if suffering is actually the result of evil’s struggle against God’s goodness?

What if God is not angry, uncaring or powerless but has a plan to defeat evil and rescue us from it’s grip?

Let me suggest that the reason you long for a place of justice and right is because you were created for just that place.

You were created to live in perfect harmony with God.

God created the first man and the first woman for relationship with Him and with each other.

And they lived in perfect harmony, in a world with no suffering. But they didn’t trust God. They chose to follow a path that looked good in their own eyes and not God’s. Then evil entered the picture.

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. . . the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
(Romans 5:12,17 NLT)

What we see around us every day is the result of evil, people rejecting God and his laws.

All those things that make us scream out, “This just isn’t right!” are caused by that evil. The Bible says that God grieves over this evil and the pain it causes.

In a very real way, God has mounted a rescue mission, and you are at the heart of it. For those who follow Him, He promises an eternity just like what your heart has cried out for – a place without pain, suffering and even death.

Listen to what Jesus says,
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
(John 16:33 NLT)

This shift in perspective, or even the thought that your view of the world has been incomplete, can be startling.
